This shot really makes me happy to live in Oregon. My mom was driving me to school one morning and we drove by these wierd looking flowers that i had never seen before. I told her to stop and i got off the car and took the picture. I named it just-the-two-of-us because its just the feeling that i got when i looked at the picture. When we first learned how to use the cameras in our photography calss Mr. Allen (our teacher) took our class to the park that is about a block away from cetury high school. I always wanted to take a picture like this and i wanted to try it just to see what it would look like. I love looking at this picture. We were drving by a house that is located off of Baseline Rd. The flowers caught my eye because of the vivid colors. I had to tell my mom to stop and drive back because i wanted to take a picture of them. I love bright colors and i like how the purple and the yellow contrast. We were drving by a house that is located off of Baseline Rd. The flowers caught my eye because of the vivid colors. I had to tell my mom to stop and drive back because i wanted to take a picture of them. I love bright colors and i like how the purple and the yellow contrast. It is a bunch of orange flowers across the street from my house. I think the type of flower is a Azaela or maybe somthing else.looking out my back yard I saw brilliant orange sky filled with lines of white billoughy clouds in the west. I was taking digital photography class at Libery at the time, and it facinated me. Bird nest found on the back porch of the beach house. This photo captures the natural rustic beauty of the Oregon Coast... and makes the rainy days worth it! You can see all the individual parts of the flower up close. The green in the background contrast the flower giving the picture balance. This picture really makes you look twice at any old weed you see on the street. Even these small flowers pack a large visual punch. This picture was taken on a back road. The curves of the picture accentuate the beauty of the atmosphere. Also the contrast between the bright red mailbox and thick green grass really catches the viewers eye. Since much of Hillsboro is out of the way back roads that have a hidden beauty, I believe that this picture represents Hillsboro Naturally.this picture is a photo of bleeding hearts that my mom grew.My Mom and I were walking on her birthday when we noticed several trees that had been targeted for a new project. The beavers munched on lillypads and watched us as we took pictures. This particular duck seemed so inclined to have his picture taken, that I could not resist his wishes.California Poppies with yellow fringe in sharp focus and soft backgroundPhotograph of a single California Poppy in sharp focus with other poppies out of focus forming the backgroundBeautiful white california poppy that fades to yellow in the center in sharp focus with soft focus poppies in backgroundThis is a photograph of a solitary California Poppy in sharp focus against a deep blue skyOn 09/June/2005 the Audubon Society released 6 Barn Owls (2 at a time) at Jackson Bottom Wetland Preserve. On an overcast day in June I took this picture at Dawson Creek. The image of the geese in the water with no worries or threats surrounding them made me feel at peace. The babies feeling so safe with their parents at their side. The cast of cool clear water under them. The vision of how special Nature is to our lives is impounding in our hearts. It was an overcast day in June when me and my camera decide to got to Dawson Creek Park to take in the beautiful Nature that surrounds the Park. It caught my eye when a group of geese were paddling in the water and enjoy the beautiful Nature we still have in the Hillsboro Area. They were not threatened or alarmed by anything around them. It was so peaceful and such a soothing feeling that came over me. I only wish I had webbed feet to join them. On an overcast day in June I went to Dawson Creek to take in the beauty of the Park when some Momma's & Daddy geese decide to take a swim with their young ones. The image was of beauty and showed the impact of the nature we still have in Hillsboro area. This is a very nice photo of a group of mushrooms together along with two mushroom outside the group and alone. The crispness in the focus brings out the uniqueness of each of the water droplets on the leaf, and the symmetry in the picture draws you towards the center with the lines in the leaf pulling you away. tLVAL` T n4Taken in the natural area of the park by Rock Creek. I love how the bright colors just "splash" out at you. After a long rain, the sun came out, and shone on this one branch of the tree. To me, this moment and snapshot showed that the old can be just as beautiful and effective as the youth, and that they add an uniqueness to life. There is a continuing trend of destroying wildlife, and if we continue, this natural beauty won't last.I've always liked this plant when I've walked by it, and this picture really shows the beauty of the flowers. It exemplifies the splendor of nature in Hillsboro.white rose in my backyard in HillsboroIn Hillsboro there is beauty all around us. On a quiet afternoon at Dawson Creek Park I watch as two ducks take their baths in the cool crisp water. As the water steams down the rocks into the pond below you get a since of comfort and your worries are lifted. The beauty of two geese swimming along in the water with out a care in the world caught my eye. With the clear cool water below them and not a care in the world I only wish I could join them. After all the species is still the same. This flower seemed almost disconnected from the rest of its type. It drooped way down low next to the dirt and grass. The odd thing was, the flower wasn t dying, drying out, or even withering. In fact, it seemed one of the healthiest stems of the plant. This flower was one of the last Liatris to bloom in this area this year, and at first, it was not very populated with bees. One day, I finally saw a bee on this flower, so I grabbed my camera, and took a picture right as the bee was flying away.As I looked at this blueberry bush, I realized something. In our life, we usually know many people. Some are old, some are young, and in the same way, some are mature, and some are immature. Some are rich, some are poor, some are tall, and some are short. But at that same time, despite all our differences, we all live in the same community, and get along, encouraging one another, and living in peace. As I was taking this picture of a flower with the sun behind it, I noticed bees flying around. I tried to take the picture with a bee in it, but was not fully sure what the picture would turn out like. When I saw the picture later, I thought about my own photography skills. I was finally getting warmer to my dream of being a professional I could now take stunning photographs. When this bee was searching for nectar in a brightly colored flower, it was the perfect opportunity for a great photograph. The beautiful colors bring out the bee, making for an all around fun summer shot.I tool this photograph on a lazy summer afternoon, when everything was slow going. This flower seemed to capture my mood and the entire feel of a summer vacation. I had just woken up and gone outside to take a few pictures, and this flower reminded me of myself. It looks dreary and tired in the unfocused parts of the photograph, but the flower has a crispness that seems to welcome the morning sun. I noticed that this red leaf, stood out from the yellow ones. That is why I call this picture 'Lonely Leaf.'A dying sunflower losing its seeds is juxtaposed to the lush greenery around it.A Spider going after a fly in its web.A Spotted Towhee poses amongst mossy branches in the broken light of a late November afternoon. This pathway was covered in beautiful yellow and orange leaves, and the leaves that were still in the trees created a sort of canopy, blocking the overcast sky for the most part. A higher exposure helped bring the brightness out of the covered sky. This amazing little path was unknown to me before I accidentally stumbled upon its beauty one day. This picture IS color, believe it or not. I've not altered it at all. The light that day and the reflections off the water sucked what little color there was right out of it.Taken at the entrance Jackson Bottom wetlands... I like the water. These trees are in a business park near the original Five Oaks plantings. While younger than the 500 year old originals, these oaks are majestic and well preserved by a large circular rock wall. This is a close-up of a leaf on the ground taken in Noble Woods Park on the morning of November 23, 2005. The leaf and the ground were still covered by the morning frost -- the first of the season. Not just one but TWO cute newts. They were hard to take photos of because they kept moving. Neverthless very cute~ This photo has a lot of color and substance with the forest floor completely covered in leaves, the greens, yellow, red, orange, and brown. I like this photo~ LVAL ` Migrating geese leaving the Jackson Bottom Wetlands at sunriseMigrating geese approaching the Jackson Bottom Wetlands at sunsetThe last leaves still stay on a tree and look as nice as their counter-parts from the early fall. I think the moss does help to retain the warm moisture for these leaves.A Winters Wren perches amongst frosted reeds on a crisp December morning. It was a windy day in Mid November, And I was very inspired to take this picture because I thought it was extermly cute to see the father and son holding hands to keep from being blown over by the icey cold wind.I saw this beaver swimming to shore and he hid in the willows I kept moving very slowly getting closer and closer until I was like 2 feet away and he just sat there letting me photograph him. I could have touched him but I was afraid of those big teeth. This photo was taken at F7 and a 15 second exposure on a tripod obviously, on a typical cold foggy Hilllsboro night. The fog gives a nice glow with the background lights. A photo of two pieces of wetland grass rising into the darkening Autumn sky.Pumpkins surrounding a tree in a field. The sun was setting on an evening in which the valley floor had a ceiling of fog and there was a layer of high clouds as well. Perfect sunset photographic conditions. I was in between the 2 layers with a beautiful sunset in between. I framed the shot with 2 leafless maple trees and some shrubs withd local hills stretching toward the Coastal range in the background.I was walking out to the bus at school, and I noticed there was a leaf on this nice day. The texture of the ground, contrasted to the texture of the leaf, so I decided to take the picture. Turned out much better then I suspected. The sky was beautiful, and I noticed this tree was unique out of most of the others, because all the leafs were gone. So I decided to take a picture from the bottom of the tree, looking up it.LVAL < \ :"hd.$Changing colors of fall at Jackson Bottom WetlandsThistle at sunset overlooking pond.Fish in the water with the reflection of clouds.Looking up at the trees with the sun light breaking through the branches.A bird's silhouette against a the setting sun's feild of a golden burning color. Nature meets modern. The courthouse has been surrounded by these lovely redwoods since before I can remember, probably before i was born. The small town of hillsboro still has a flavour of natural elements to it. These Overlooking Giants are only a small bit of this.Closeup of a mushroom growning in mossSunset of a tree at the top of a small hill with not a single leaf left on it.A veiw of the moon in between some tree's, with rose colored cloudes sweeping in front of it.A gathering of pumpkins surrounded by small flowers.Road way covered in fall colored leaves with white fence leading your eye over the hill.Photo was taken outside the office in Hillsboro. The fruits have a connection with the leaves of autumn because of the beautiful shades of color. A puddle collects rainwater and leaves in a nighttime rainshower, giving new meaning to the word 'watercolors'. A scarlet rose that was a late bloomer and now lies in the field of leaves. A yellow mushroom 'Stands Alone' in grass wet from autumn rains. In the background: a crisp, fall sky.I looked up at this tree to see it was changing - it was no longer the sapling that it used to be, but it was still changing. At this moment, leaves were changing color and would soon fall. It reminded me of an adult - no longer a child, but still changing.I love how this photograph captures almost every color of the rainbow, yet the season of fall is all about things dieing. The seeds (helicopter) in this image symbolize the promises of beauty that fall will bring in this years to come, which give me hope for yet another great season of photographing. Its branches framed the bridge nicely in the background.A beautiful November morning provided crystal clear skies, rich fall colors, wildlife in the water and a striking reflection at Dawson Creek Park.Creek running thru Noble Woods Park during the first snow fall of the year. The first snow fall of winter 2005. A fall afternoon with sunlights shining through the leaves and creating a contrast of colors under the tree.In this photo the icy pond reflects the soft glow of the setting winter sun on the trees, creating graceful lines and evoking a feeling of calm.In a surface that is typically smooth, sharp angels create contrast and depth in the facets of the ice. They catch the light reflected from amber trees and the brilliant blue of the cloudless winter sky on the surface of a frozen lake. The first major rains of the year had fallen, flooding this area. The tree stood alone, amidst the rising waters. The early morning light cast long shadows through the carpet of fallen leaves. This wild squirrel was gathering nuts and seeds for winter. I caught him on his way back down this big tree.A squirrel stocking up on his nuts before winter sets in!This small clover plant seems to be unaware that it is winter in Oregon and that it is making its home amongst the rocks. I liked the variations of color in this photo.I have always loved the uniqueness of the evergreen tree in the photo. It was especially striking when the moon was descending from view. The photo was taken early in the morning with a Minolta A1. The original file is a RAW 2560x1920. Unfortunately, today (12-28-05) I discovered during submission that I took the picture 3 days too early for this contest. Perhaps the judges might be flexible.LVALBp@ f|I took this shot an early morning while walking down turner creek its a spider with a silhoutte backround Deanna, I had to re-fix 2005 to 2006. Just uploading to see if the confirmations are showing the change. I was told that the sprinklers had broken and ran for 3 hours, Lucky me.With cold temperatures in mid-February, a sprinkling system creates a winter icy formation as ducks swim by at dusk. With the above normal rainfall in January, water spilled over normally dry land. The colors of the early morning sunrise is reflected in the water near an observation shelter. Taken at 8:00am, this picture shows the details of a frost-covered thornweed. I thought that the chill of the picture, not only from the temperature, but also from the thorns, added to the impact of winter. This is a bloom on one of the bushes at my house. This is a once in a lifetime Sunset. It really looked like that. This is an original picture and I love it.I found this Father, Mother and child all watching the sunset together with their many friends. I noticed that the tree in my back yard was changing in color so I thought i'd take a shot of it, I think it turned out pretty cool.Taken in a field at sunset one of the few days it didn't rain in the past month. I almost missed seeing these first blooms of the season - they were so tiny, yet incredibly cheerful. I love how the colors in the picture fit into an analogous color scheme - it creates a unity in the picture as well as in the overall idea of the season - old, dark colors, such as the darker blues, in contrast to the greens and yellows of the new growth. While sitting on the bank of the water's edge, a beautiful mallard duck floated by. I barely noticed it, but its stunning blue head drew my attention. The water surrounded him flawlessly - reflecting the bright and sunny sky above our heads. The morning sun shone down and glimmered off of the water amongst the reeds at waters edge. The curved lines of the sprouting field caught my eye. The green new blades poking up through the winter hardened soil, promising of growth and a future harvest. The curves followed the pattern of the tractor that sowed the seeds. We were driving back from shooting photos an Rood Bridge Park and saw the sunset, Pulled over to the side of the road and shot several before the light changed. When I turned around to look at it, it reminded me of cotton candy from my childhood - sweet, pink, happy, and fresh. While taking pictures in the park, I was intrigued by a birch tree's beautiful bark. It seemed to be peeling off, just as the passing of this winter season...it was peeling off its white winter coat.LVAL R @ ` rThis is a picture of two flowers that are blooming. The brightness of the background is a nice contrast and the way that one leaf looks as if it's right in front of the camera gives it a good sense of depth. Was walking in the sun and saw a beautiful flower! There was a bumble Bee on it, but it flew away just as i snapped this! Sunflower, perfect lighting and focus to bring attention to the center of the flower, also, you can see the details really well! I had been watching this little guy grow from when he was just a baby my first thought about it where, “im sorry, I will help you become something great.” I felt bad for it because, it was so.. um, “challenged”. This summer dwelling fruit is a great subject to show that if you aren’t the best looking or “coolest” person, its your uniqueness, your imperfections that make you, or that special subject something spectacular.I like to show people things they don’t normally see. You say, "then why did you take a picture of a yellow jacket, those are all around Hillsboro". I tried to illustrate a more illusive and not regularly seen side. I wanted to show that some things in life that are first perceived as a nuisance can have a calmer, more majestic side. My pictures main purpose is to influence people to take a double look at life, and see the good, instead of the bad. Summer time is about relaxing and enjoying the air, not worrying about the future. A Collection of wild daisies with small peddles.A little field near my house caught rows and rows of powerlines against the sunset in the endless sea of grass. I will never forget this picture. The picture was taken during the extremly hot day when everybody was looking to chill out. That is the question that bees have to answer, and although they only live for five weeks, after hovering around for quite sometime, this honey bee decided to stop and enjoy the fresh morning air and gorgeous scenery. The vibrant colors in the picture illustrate Hillsboro s natural beauty, while the bee shows the excitement of summer in the air. The bee s position in the photograph captures the eagerness for a new destination, just as we must depart from summer, and start a new page in our lives. As my mother was picking pears, I walked around Jossy Farm to see beautiful plants and flowers. Out of all the flowers I saw and pictures I took, this photograph really seemed to capture the activity and beauty of summer. This bee was so attracted to the flower and into its contents, just as we are into summer s activities. However, as you can see from the fading sunflower in the background, it is obvious that summer is dwindling down into fall, and that soon, there will be no more excitement to focus on, as we return to our ordinary lives. This picture captures one such rose whose pleasant color radiates amazing energy alongwith its shape and size. To go with it, the bud in the background compliments the rose magnificently with its concoct of colors - red, green and the beautiful white streaks.Thousands would walk by them daily without giving heed to their existense. I was happy to catch the falling leaf near the middle/top of the shot. Fall and winter s dull colors usually make me feel gloomy, which is partly why the I love to take pictures to take a closer look and find beauty in areas that I would otherwise consider uninteresting. While snapping pictures on a brisk autumn morning, I was having trouble finding anything worthy of taking pictures of. Then, I noticed a beautiful Chinese Maple that was glistening brightly from the previous night s rain. I stood in awe at its naturally warm palette, amidst an otherwise dreary backdrop, and attempted to capture its beauty in this shot. I was out on an early morning walk, and I noticed that dew drops had appeared overnight, covering everything in sight. This peaceful look stuck me, because the day before there was a huge windstorm. It illustrated a general characteristic of fall to me one day it can be wonderfully calm, then the next, horribly violent. I felt that this picture - a freshly fallen baby leaf, covered with perfect water droplets, conveyed this message, and the overall idea of fall.I drive home by this route and have noticed how the sun shines through the green leaves in the late afternoon. They seem to take on a fluorescent glow. I carry my camera with me in the car, and when I saw the perfect shot, I created this image. My wildlife quest on the last day of Spring Vacation yields a unusual view of mushrooms growing on a tree stump near a trail head at Jackson Bottom.A circle of evergreens late afternoon in the Noble Woods ParkBlue-eyed white goose standing his groundI was taking a walk with my daughter along the trail in Jackson School preserve when my daughter pointed out several water striders. They looked as if they where performing ballet on water.Entrance to the Yahoo facility taken from the middle of the parking lot. Trees in bloom framing the entrance with flower beds flanking the entry to the reception area. This apple blossom picture struck a chord with me because it appears that the background is literally a water color painted canvas as the structures of the trunk, other blossoms and sky fade into one another. My goal was to capture a photograph that represented the end of winter and the promise of spring. I was in my backyard when the sun momentarily peeked out from the clouds, and I discovered these Siamese daffodils. I took numerous shots, trying to get the right angle on this beautiful sight. With its sharp contrast, this picture portrays how the bright hope of spring emerges from the dark gloom of winter. This winter, Hillsboro has seen intense storms. The windstorm early on brought down power lines and trees, and even cancelled schools. There were also dustings of snow - this particular snow storm showed up unexpectedly, canceling businesses, stores, and schools for the day. With downed branched and bent trees beautifully covered in blanket of snow, I feel that this picture captures the storms that we faced, but also hints at a calm and quiet spring that would be soon approaching.LVAL"<X F : t 2 f t ,Nx*&Outside of Century High School on the Track and Field.Bottom of McCormick Hill in Hillsboro Bottom of McCormick Hill in Hillsboro A pumpkin patch off Cornelius Pass RoadMount Hood viewed from the visitor's center at Jackson Bottom.4490 sw minter bridge rd hillsboro, or 971233331 SE Pine ST Hillsboro, OR 971233331 SE Pine ST.
